The Thermo Fisher Scientific FirstDefender RM S1 Raman Spectrophotometer is a rugged handheld Raman spectrometer designed for rapid field identification of unknown chemicals, explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), and hazardous substances. It is widely used by hazmat teams, military units, customs, forensic laboratories, bomb squads, and first responders.

The FirstDefender RM (“Raman”) is part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific portable chemical identification lineup. The device uses Raman spectroscopy for non-contact, non-destructive chemical analysis, including through translucent containers such as glass and plastic.
